This easy, yet elegant recipe for air fryer baked brie is going to have you falling in love! You'll have melty brie cheese in less than 15 minutes, making for a perfect appetizer for any occasion.

Add it to a charcuterie board, or serve it up with fresh fruit and honey - the choice is yours!

As an avid fan of baked brie (and just brie in general), I started to wonder if there was a quicker and easier way to prepare this great appetizer. While I've definitely used the microwave method, it just doesn't get those toasty edges like the oven, so I wondered if maybe an air fryer could handle the task. And boy, am I glad I tried it out!

This air fryer brie recipe has to be one of the easiest ways to make "baked" brie, and you still get similar results to that of a traditional oven-baked version. Pull it out of the air fryer, top with a drizzle of honey, serve it with some baguette slices and fresh fruit and you're good to go!

Why You'll Love It:

  • Perfect for special occasions. Whether it's a dinner party, Christmas time, or a night in with the girls, it's a real crowd-pleaser.
  • Step-by-step instructions. Don't worry, I won't leave you hanging! I've tackled every potential issue in the post below, and have highlighted key information in the printable recipe card.
  • Made in the air fryer. If you're as much of a fan of air fryer recipes as I am, you know that this magical machine is great for making your favorite dishes in record time.

You Will Need:

The ingredients needed to make baked brie: cheese, and foods to serve it with like honey, grapes, and crostini.
  • Brie cheese: A more economical brie is totally fine for this recipe! For extra meltiness, use a double or triple cream, but inexpensive types work just as well. You could also use camembert if desired.
  • For serving: I like to serve mine with crostini, honey, grapes, and other types of fresh fruit (apples, pears, etc). You can use whatever you like best!

Check the recipe card for a full list of ingredients and the quantities needed.

Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Parchment paper (crumple it first - it helps it to lay flat!)

How to Make Baked Brie in an Air Fryer

Top tip: For the best results, always preheat your air fryer to the desired temperature for at least 3 minutes, or according to the manufacturers instructions.

  1. Place the wheel of brie cheese on a piece of crumpled parchment paper and lower it into the basket of an air fryer.

  1. Cook at 325ºF (160ºC) for 9-11 minutes, or until the center of the cheese presses in easily with your finger.
  2. Remove from the air fryer and serve immediately with fresh fruit, honey, baguette slices, and/or your favorite serving options.

Cooking Time Variations for Different Sizes

Wheels of brie cheese come in a variety of sizes, and those that are very small will need less time in the air fryer than very large wheels (like those found at places like Costco).

  • Small. These range from 140-250 grams (4-8 ounces) , and are typically done in 7-10 minutes at 325ºF (160ºC).
  • Medium. Up to 500 grams (a little more than 16 ounces or 1 pound), these wheels are typically ready in 9-11 minutes.
  • Large. Up to 1 kilogram (or 2.2 pounds), these are the type that are found at warehouse stores. These will need a little more time to cook, but not as much as you would think! About 10-13 minutes should do the trick.

The best way to know if your cheese is done is to check the center. If it is easily depressed with your finger - it's time to remove and serve! Watch it closely, as brie will harden in the center if it is overheated.

What to Serve with Baked Brie

  • Grapes (green, red, or both)
  • Apple slices
  • Sliced pear
  • Toasted baguette slices (AKA crostini)
  • Honey
  • Nuts (like almonds, pistachios, walnuts, etc)
  • Maple syrup
  • Fruit preserves or jam (like cranberry sauce or apricot preserves)
  • Stewed fruit (strawberries, blueberries, etc)
  • Dates
  • Crusty bread
  • White wine

Variation: With Puff Pastry

Also known as baked brie en croute, a popular variation is to wrap the cheese in a sheet of puff pastry, then brush the top of the puff pastry with an egg wash before baking.

Because you will want to cook the pastry until it is golden brown while still melting the cheese, you will need to increase the heat to 360ºF (180ºC) and cook for about 14-20 minutes, dependent on the size of the brie wheel and amount of puff pastry used.

Another option: If you don't have access to puff pastry, you may find crescent rolls do a pretty good job too!

Cheese no longer melty? Here's what to do:

Especially with smaller wheels of cheese, you'll find that brie can begin to harden within 10-20 minutes of serving. I've found two ways that work perfectly for reheating and getting that delightful melty texture back in a flash.

  • Microwave. Don't turn your noses up! A quick zap in the microwave can have your brie back to its former glory. Just heat it in 20-30 second increments until the center is warm and gooey again.
  • Heat gun. This is totally random, but it works great if you don't want to move the cheese from the serving plate! A quick blast with a heat gun (maybe 20-30 seconds) softens it quickly - just be sure to move it around to prevent scorching.
  • Air fryer. If you can maneuver it, add the brie (and parchment) back to the air fryer and reheat at 325ºF (160ºC) for 3-4 minutes, or until softened.

Storing Leftovers

If you have any leftovers, transfer them to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in 20-30 second intervals in a microwave until very soft in the center.

Recipe FAQs

Do I need to remove the outer rind before baking?

This is a matter of preference and it doesn't really impact the final result. Leaving the outer rind in place (even if you don't like the taste) prevents the cheese from spilling out, so for presentation purpose it is recommended that you leave the rind in place.

Should brie be scored before baking?

Again, a matter of preference. Some people score the cheese because it encourages the center to melt more quickly, but the surface can be left intact if your prefer.

Why is my baked brie rubbery?

If you overcooked the brie, the cheese will actually seize and harden up. Next time, check the center more often. As soon as it sinks easily with the press of a finger, you're ready to remove it from the oven and serve.

Notes

Storage: Transfer leftovers to an airtight container and keep refrigerated. Store for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave in 20-30 second intervals until soft and gooey in the center.
*Different sizes of brie: If you’re shopping at the grocery store, chances are you’ll be purchasing a wheel that is 1 pound (454 grams) or smaller. These smaller wheels need less time, while large wheels may need more time. The most important thing is to check for doneness by pressing the center. This is the best indicator that your cheese is done.
  • Small: 7-10 minutes
  • Medium: 9-11 minutes
  • Large: 10-13 minutes
Don’t overcook: The cheese will harden if you overcook it - so make sure to check it often to ensure it’s just right.
With puff pastry: Wrap the cheese in a sheet of puff pastry and brush with an egg wash. Cook at 360ºF (180ºC) for 14-20 minutes, or until golden brown with a soft center.
Serving options: Honey, nuts, fruit preserves, apple slices, pear slices, grapes, crostini, crusty bread, white wine, etc.
**Toasted baguette slices: Slice a baguette into ¼” slices and place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush with olive oil (with parsley, if desired) and sprinkle with flaky salt. Bake in a 375ºF oven for 10-14 minutes, or until golden brown on the edges. Alternatively, they can be air fried at 325ºF (160ºC) for 3-4 minutes.
